Snow removal is one of the few trades where how you price matters as much as the number — a seasonal contract in a light winter is pure profit, and the same contract in a record year can bury you. Here's how to price snow removal in 2026.
Pick your pricing model
There are four common models, and each moves the weather risk: per visit / per push, per hour, per inch, and a seasonal contract. Choose deliberately — it decides who wins in a mild winter and who wins in a brutal one.
- Per visit: about $30–$70 for a standard driveway.
- Per hour: about $25–$75 depending on shovel, blower, or plow.
- Seasonal contract: about $200–$600 for the winter.
- Steep or gravel driveways: about $50–$100+ per storm.
What a snow price has to cover
- Labor — often at odd hours and in bad conditions.
- Equipment & fuel — plow, blower, and truck wear over a season.
- Salt & de-icer — priced separately or bundled, but never free.
- Overhead, insurance & margin — slip-and-fall liability is real; carry it and charge for it.
Seasonal vs per-visit: who takes the weather risk
With per-visit, the customer pays per storm — you're safe in a light winter and busy in a heavy one. With a seasonal contract, you're betting on average snowfall — great in a mild year, painful in a blizzard year. A per-push cap (charging again past a certain depth) protects you on the monster storms while still offering a flat feel.
Price the driveway, not just the snow
Length, slope, gravel, tight turns, salting, sidewalks, and how fast they need it cleared all change the price. A short flat driveway you can plow in two minutes is not the same as a long gravel one you have to blow — quote each on its own.
Lock the contract before the first storm
QuoteCrew makes signing customers before the season fast. You say the job out loud (“standard two-car driveway, plow at 2 inches, salt the walk, seasonal contract”), and it builds an itemized quote from your saved rates and texts the customer a link to accept — on the spot. On your phone, in English or Spanish.
You can price a snow route perfectly at your desk. You just can't do it fast enough, at the door in October, before the next plow guy signs them up — and that speed is what fills your route before the first flake falls.
Ranges above are 2026 U.S. national averages and vary by region, driveway, and snowfall; always price from your own local costs and insurance.
